IS THIS WHAT THE END WAS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE
A few days ago, I was listening to a podcast on the greatest turning points in our history that have led us to where we are, things that our forefathers witnessed - the rise and fall of kings and their countries, the greatest tragedies in the world, the Holocaust, the plagues, the world wars ,watching the mammoth monuments being built from nothing, witnessing some of the greatest bands to ever perform, evolutionary writers and poets, advent of the web and the list is seemingly endless.
It is really difficult to put how far we've come in perspective, to think that only about 80 years ago we were using horse drawn carriages for transportation, oil lamps and candles were sources of light and agriculture was the world's major occupation, everything they did ultimately had a physical manifestation and materialized. Whereas today as I sit typing this blog, scrolling through social media, listening to music ,as stock market takes plunges due to the failing economy and virus pandemic , it is all ultimately taking place in the cloud and servers, which Matthew Mcconnehey's character in the Wolf of the Wall street ,very aptly describes as Fugazi "It's a whazy. It's a whoozi. It's all fairy dust".
At the beginning of the year everyone was adopting travel and self love resolutions, happily anticipating our future that we more or less could guess .Just the first two months of this year we felt like the characters of a dystopian novel, surviving World War 3 threats, Climate change bushfires, Volcanic eruptions, Riots in the capital, Worldwide protests ,Justin Beiber's Yummy to name a few.
3 months into this year and as we face a Worldwide clampdown on everything we've ever known because of the Covid 19 pandemic, everyday we are stepping closer to worldwide recession, countries declaring national emergencies, at some point shockwaves will stop getting absorbed and we will face the repercussions of these snowballed issues.
What is even more unsettling is that we have no idea what will be our new reality after it all ends, if we live to see the end that is. This feels like it has the potential to be a turning point in our history, because this certainly isn't the fairy dust we're used to.
